ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Yejide Kilanko was born in Ibadan, Nigeria. She is a writer of novels, short stories, and poetry. Kilanko’s debut novel, Daughters Who Walk This Path (2012), a Canadian national bestseller, was longlisted for the inaugural Etisalat Prize and the Nigeria Literature Prize.
In 2012, Kilanko was named one of the top five hottest up-and-comers on the Canadian writing scene by the Globe and Mail. Her work includes a novella, Chasing Butterflies (2015) and a children’s picture book, There Is An Elephant In My Wardrobe (2018). Her short fiction is included in the anthology, New Orleans Review 2017: The African Literary Hustle. Her second picture book, Juba and The Fireball, is forthcoming in late 2020.
Kilanko lives in Chatham, Ontario where she practices as a therapist in children’s mental health.

In 2009, she became a Human Resource Management Specialist at the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), where she managed a diverse pool of Francophone & Anglophone staff from 15 countries. 4 years later, she left to start a family and, that birthed her second journey into the media industry. Being a mum of 3 children whose ages range from 3 to 6, she has a ready-made audience which also serves as a focus group for the creation of more kids' content. Uchechi's love for story-telling has inspired her work in publishing more Africa-inspired books for kids on folktales, proverbs, riddles etc. She is also working on animated series based on African stories and culture.
